This ensures projects don’t go over budget as is usually the case.“It basically starts with a designer meeting with their customer, discussing what their project is. And one of the things that we do that’s extremely different than other people is that we have to be able to develop a team relationship with the customer and get to know what their budget is,” says owner Terry Morrill.Clients who have a hard time picking a design can visit Pacific Outdoor Living, and see the options available to them.“We have a showroom up in La Crescenta that has all the various products that are available to them, so the customer can see a sample of the real thing and also a sample of the different furniture that we have,” says Terry.Rebecca Morrill, daughter of Terry, says that clients coming to visit the showroom can expect a variety of displays as far as outdoor living is concerned. “We have outdoor living rooms consisting of outdoor furniture, pergolas, jalousies, fountains, pottery and of course the paving stone samples as well as their building materials such as flooring, outdoor flooring and ponds; there’s a lot to see here,” Rebecca explains.Clients who employ the design and contractor services of Pacific Outdoor living can also expect some perks and benefits.“For our customers that are working with Pacific Outdoor Living, we extend designer discounts and great pricing. Of course for the retail store, we do have great pricing but there are extra discounts for those customers that are actually having landscape design services done with us,” says Rebecca.Rebecca also explains that Pacific Outdoor Living offers great value, “We don’t pretend to be the cheapest but basically what we give is excellent service and excellent quality products.”The company aims to give clients everything they need when it comes to outdoor landscaping, and the showroom is where clients “can basically have everything from the idea and the concept to the actual design, the drawing and specs to the installation of the landscape design and the project. Even the furniture with the bells and whistles and the frosting at the end [like] lighting and accessories, fountains, pottery, things like that,” says Rebecca.Terry adds that aside from landscapes, the company also designs and builds swimming pools, ponds and basically most water features.“A lot of our customers say it’s like their own private resort that we can build and create for them,” says Terry. The company also ensures quality work and back’s it up with a “customer loyalty program, where we’ll call and talk to the customers at the end of the job to evaluate how we did, how the salesman did, how the crew did and to instantly be able to go up there and repair and correct anything that does come up.”From design to build, everything that customers need regarding outdoor living, whether it’s advice or products, Rebecca says “we’re here for them.”Pacific Outdoor Living is located at 2727 Foothill Blvd, La Crescenta. To learn more about Pacific Outdoor Living, visit www.pacificoutdoorliving.com or call (818) 247-9595. A new loan product from Freddie Mac – CHOICERenovation – allows borrowers to combine home improvement costs with a mortgage or refinance loan.“We realized that there’s a significant amount of aging housing stock and a severe lack of affordable housing,” said Kelly Marrocco, credit policy director at Freddie Mac. “This loan program provides people with the opportunity to buy or refinance older properties and include the cost of repairs in their loan.”In addition, the product allows funds to be used to repair damage caused by a natural disaster and to prevent future disaster damage, such as covering the cost of storm surge barriers, foundation retrofitting or retaining walls.Approved lenders who choose to provide CHOICERenovation mortgages to Freddie Mac may do so before or after the renovations on the property are complete. However, if the loan is being submitted prior to the completion, written approval must be received from Freddie Mac.The loan product is available now for all approved lenders. Credit unions can learn more about the product, eligibility requirements and its terms here. ShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr continue reading »
After recording its first tie in two seasons, the 4-0-1Wisconsin wrestling team has to rebound for another tough match. Tonight, thegrapplers open their Big Ten season as they head to Columbus to take on theOhio State Buckeyes.Ohio State comes into the match as the 13th-ranked team inthe nation. The Badgers are ranked three spots ahead of the Buckeyes at No. 10,but UW head coach Barry Davis knows not to take Ohio State lightly.”I’m sure they’ll be ready,” Davis said of his team. “Theybeat us in the (Las Vegas) tournament. They’ve got quite a few guys who placedahead of us at the Vegas tournament. But, you know, that’s why you compete.”Saturday night the Badgers were in Iowa visiting theNorthern Iowa Panthers and came home with a 16-16 tie. The Badgers won onlyfour matches during the night, and they also saw junior Dallas Herbst sufferhis first loss of the season. As the Badgers head off to Columbus for an uncharacteristicallyearly season Big Ten matchup, the Badgers know that this match is just thebeginning of what could be a special season.”It’s kind of nicebecause it’s almost like a warm-up,” senior Craig Henning said. “Getting in a realtough match before we get a break. It’s kind of like a preview of what we havecoming up when we come back (from semester break). So it’ll be a niceeye-opener for everyone to really show and really buckle down.”The Big Ten willonce again be a hotbed of the nation’s best wrestling. Along with the Badgersand Buckeyes, seven other Big Ten schools are ranked in the top 20. Tonight’smatchup not only features two top 15 teams, but also 12 individually-ranked wrestlers. One of the big matchups will be at 141 pounds, when UW’s 13th-rankedKyle Ruschell takes on No. 7 Jeff Jaggers. The two wrestlers met Dec. 1 at theCliff Keen Invitational, with Jaggers winning by pinning Ruschell in 3:20.Ruschell is coming off a big upset Saturday of 10th-ranked C.J. Ettelson ofUNI.”With Ohio State, they’re always tough,” junior Kyle Massey said. “We didn’t actually dual themlast year, so it’s going to be cool to be able to get the chance to see themthis year heads-up. A couple of our guys wrestled them (last) weekend out inVegas, so it’s going to be good to try to get some matchup there that we wantto see. We’re looking forward to some big matches out there.”The match is also the Big Ten opener for the Buckeyes, andthey have selected former coach and former Badger coach Russ Hellickson as thehonorary coach of the match. Hellickson went 70-22-1 in four years for theBadgers before heading to Ohio State. Once there, Hellickson went on to coachthe Buckeyes for 20 years, posting a record 272-170-6.”We’re going to come out strong,” Davis said. “I don’tthink we’re favored here, but favored or not, that’s why you wrestle. You don’tgo by what’s on paper.”
The hosts did have the ball in the net before half-time when Raheem Sterling finished off a flowing team move, but the England international was denied his first ever goal against United by an offside flag.Sterling contrived to miss another glorious chance to kill the tie off just before the hour mark as he rounded De Gea but blasted over with just defenders on the line to beat.Guardiola then could not believe his eyes when David Silva tried to tee up Ilkay Gundogan rather than shoot with just De Gea to beat after Harry Maguire was caught in possession. The tension among the home support was eased when Matic finally paid for persistent fouling when he chopped down Bernardo Silva to cut short a City counter-attack.Aguero finally beat De Gea with a deft finish only to also be flagged offside as United salvaged some pride, if not their chances of a first trophy since 2017.United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has not been present at recent games as animosity towards his part in the club’s declining fortunes on the field has grown. However, Woodward was in attendance at the Etihad just a day after a hooded mob attacked his home with flares and graffiti.Share on: WhatsApp PHOTO @mancityManchester, United Kingdom | AFP | Manchester City booked their place in a third successive League Cup final, but made hard work of disposing of Manchester United 3-2 on aggregate after losing the second leg of their semi-final 1-0 at home on Wednesday.City enjoyed the vast majority of the chances but could not find a way past the inspired David de Gea and went behind to United’s first attempt on goal 10 minutes before half-time when Nemanja Matic fired home. However, United’s hopes of completing a miraculous comeback were extinguished when Matic was then sent-off 15 minutes from time and City held on to face Aston Villa at Wembley on March 1.United had a mountain to climb after losing the first leg 3-1 at home three weeks ago and were without top scorer Marcus Rashford, who played a big part in the Red Devils’ victory when they last visited the Etihad in December.City started like they did in racing into a 3-0 lead within 38 minutes at Old Trafford as they swarmed all over the visitors, who had De Gea to thank for keeping them in the tie.Sergio Aguero was first to threaten with a diving header that the Spaniard parried to safety before using his legs to repel Riyad Mahrez’s effort.Bernardo Silva flashed a shot across goal before more De Gea acrobatics denied Aguero again at his near post.United had not even mustered a shot in anger for the first 35 minutes, but suddenly the tie was back in the balance when Matic connected sweetly from the edge of the box after City failed to clear a free-kick into the box.

A low-key start and an 89th-minute winner that gave them a forgettable 1-0 win over an Egypt side missing Mohamed Salah has now given way to real hope they can win their third World Cup.With a defence built around the central pairing of Jose Gimenez and the vastly experienced 32-year-old Diego Godin — they also play together at Atletico Madrid — Uruguay have won all four games in Russia, conceding a solitary goal. They are also the only side to have beaten Russia, overwhelming them 3-0 in the group stage in what appeared to be a reality check for the host nation before they want on to stun Spain in the last 16.Uruguay extinguished Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on a thrilling night in Sochi to reach the quarter-finals, with Edinson Cavani scoring two brilliant goals.Next up the grizzly, experienced World Cup campaigners take on a young France — including the exciting Kylian Mbappe and Atletico’s Antoine Griezmann — in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday, bidding for a place in the semi-finals.It is a tough assignment for France and any hope that their stars will enjoy the same space they found in their 4-3 win against a disorganised Argentina have already been extinguished.Edinson Cavani is an injury doubt for Uruguay © AFP / PIERRE-PHILIPPE MARCOU“France’s strongest points are the attackers, Griezmann and Mbappe,” Uruguay’s veteran coach Oscar Tabarez said in his understated yet determined way after the Portugal victory.“If you let France have space it will be very difficult.”“El Maestro” Tabarez has been in charge of Uruguay for 12 years and has not only forged a strong team who rarely fail to deliver on the big stage, but also a side with an immense work ethic and huge experience. At this World Cup, goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and star striker Luis Suarez both collected their 100th caps. The main doubt for France is Cavani, who has a calf muscle injury that forced him off against Portugal. He did not train on Tuesday. Cavani has played 105 times for his country. If he has not recovered in time, he could replaced by Cristhian Stuani, who has played 42 times for Uruguay, just 16 fewer than Griezmann has appeared for France. And they are marshalled by Godin, currently 121 caps and counting.“We always think about not letting our opponent play, that’s one of the things that bothers them,” midfielder Diego Laxalt told AFP.“We try to make sure that strikers don’t feel comfortable, it’s a good option.” – Turning over new leaf –But in this topsy-turvy World Cup, one thing for Uruguay has notably changed.Surprisingly, the team that have received the fewest yellow cards in Russia — just one — are Uruguay, known in the past to resort to the dark arts to win.At the last World Cup, Luis Suarez was involved in a notorious biting scandal and as back in 1986 Uruguay were labelled “liars and cheaters” by Alex Ferguson after a bad-tempered match against Scotland. This time, only Rodrigo Bentancur has been booked. It is a remarkable transformation. They have five fewer yellow cards than France and it is the Europeans who have to reshuffle because of a suspension to Blaise Matuidi.“In reality, I think Uruguay has been a strong, aggressive opponent, but without any bad intention towards the opponent,” said Suarez on Tuesday, adding that they should be proud of their disciplinary record in Russia.Uruguay also have a reputation as World Cup party poopers — including Ghana in 2010 — and history is on their side. The two nations have met three times in the World Cup and Uruguay have not lost once.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Uruguay are marshalled by defensive stalwart Diego Godin © AFP / Odd ANDERSENNizhniy Novgorod, Russian Federation, Jul 3 – Streetwise and tough yet with a razor-sharp edge, Uruguay have moved serenely into the World Cup quarter-finals, side-stepping the chaos that has swamped former winners Argentina, Germany and Spain.Uruguay have shown in Russia they are extremely difficult to beat yet sometimes underwhelming — factors you could have predicted from them before the World Cup.
Cape Town’s range of luxurious hotels andspectacular scenery make it one of thetop tourist destinations in the world.(Image: Jeff Barbee,MediaClubSouthAfrica.com image library) MEDIA CONTACTS • Stephen ForbesMeropa Communications+27 21 683 6464Nicky RehbockCape Town is one of British Airways passengers’ favourite international destinations, an impromptu study of global booking trends has revealed.Although the 2010 Fifa World Cup undoubtedly contributed to the trend, with 34 000 passengers flying from London to South Africa during the month-long event, “demand for flights to Cape Town was on the rise even before the tournament”, said BA’s commercial manager in South Africa, Sue Botes.Airline spokesperson Stephen Forbes said the World Cup success built on the city’s 2009/10 summer season, when Cape Town emerged as one of the 10 most popular destinations for BA passengers flying from London.Preliminary estimates by the South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs reveal that more than 1-million foreign tourists entered the country in June and July 2010, which puts BA’s portion of arrivals at about 3.4%.The London-to-Cape Town route is busiest from November to March, the height of the South African summer, when BA ups its number of weekly flights to the city from seven to 13.Cape Town is largely a leisure destination, so demand is seasonal. Johannesburg, on the other hand, is a popular business centre, so BA’s services for that city are pretty constant throughout the year, Forbes said.Already, reservations for flights to Cape Town “look very good” for the upcoming season, Botes said.A hit with World Cup visitorsCape Town’s popularity was also revealed in a recent poll by the Western Cape government and Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU), which markets the city as a tourist drawcard. It showed that 96% of visitors during the World Cup had a more positive perception of the city than before, and that 32% would visit it and the rest of the Western Cape province again after the tournament. An additional 66% of tourists said they planned to bring their families along on their next trip to Cape Town. The majority of visitors gave their World Cup experience of Cape Town a nine out of 10, which was in the category of “very good” to “excellent”.A visit to Table Mountain was the best part of the trip for 42% of the respondents, while 34% of the tourists liked Cape Point the most. Other highlights included sampling the many fine wines produced in the province and meeting South Africa’s “friendly and helpful people”, the poll found.Olympic bidWith Cape Town well established as a top international attraction, there is talk of the city bidding to host the 2020 Olympics.Speaking at a council meeting on 28 July, mayor Dan Plato said many South Africans are keen for Cape Town to host the games in a decade’s time.“People feel that, based on our World Cup success, Cape Town should bid for the Olympics. It seems like the next logical step, but it requires careful thought, not an emotional response.“The World Cup is staged by a country, the Olympics by only one city. It would be inconceivable to host it without support and guaranteed funding from the national government.”Plato also said there were many matters to consider before making the final decision on the bid.“We will first complete our debriefing of the World Cup. We will then take stock of our service delivery priorities, which include poverty alleviation, housing and services. Next we will do a gap analysis to ascertain the facilities, venues and services required to host the Olympics, against what Cape Town currently has.“We must establish what it will take and cost to provide the rest, and whether hosting will contribute to our long-term goals as a city. Finally, we must be certain of the social, economic and environmental benefits.”Cape Town has already shown flair in attracting major sporting events, such as rugby, cricket and football World Cups, the Indian Professional League cricket and the final 2010 World Cup draw.Every year it hosts the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour – the world’s largest individually timed cycle race – as well as the Two Oceans and Cape Town Marathon, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and the Cape Town Book Fair. Its world-class venues, diverse natural beauty and hospitable people are key ingredients in pulling off these off, the mayor said.Keen interest from AsiaWeekly surveys done by Cape Town Tourism during the World Cup revealed that the majority of visitors were from the UK and US, but there were significant numbers from previously untapped markets such as South America and the Far East, where efforts to further promote the city are already under way.A number of Cape Town and Western Cape tourism organisations participated in trade workshops in China, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan from 22 to 30 July, and high on the agenda were the province’s upgraded road networks, transport facilities, five-star hotels and creative cuisine offerings. It was estimated that 1 150 Asian trade and media members would attend the workshops.“Cape Town and the Western Cape experienced a 40% growth in tourism arrivals from China last year, compared to 2008. We must build on this and make even sharper inroads into a market that is regarded as one of the fastest growing outbound tourism markets in the world,” said Calvyn Gilfellan, CEO of CTRU.The appetite for Cape Town and the Western Cape has grown exponentially, said South African Tourism’s Bradley Bouwer, who attended the workshops.“We’ve experienced a definite and real interest in South Africa since the World Cup, and a better response from travel trade and media here,” he said. “This is indeed our moment. What the South African tourism industry needs to do now, is ensure that the country remains the value-for-money destination that it really is.”The workshops came at just the right time as both Japan and South Korea are bidding to host the 2022 Fifa World Cup, while it is rumoured that China may bid for the 2026.This offers a valuable opportunity for the Western Cape to share its 2010 World Cup experiences with these countries, which will hopefully further promote it as an appealing tourism destination.“Through our participation in the workshops, we will ensure that the publicity we received during the World Cup is converted into increased arrivals to our beautiful province,” said Alan Winde, Western Cape MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism.
